Residential Roof Cleaning
The dark streaking that runs down so many Northeast Ohio roofs is organic growth, not shingle wear. It shows up first on north-facing slopes and under tree cover, and it spreads. Cleaning it changes the look of a house more than most people expect.
Roofs are cleaned with low pressure. We do not pressure wash shingles.
How roof cleaning is done correctly
A roof is cleaned with appropriate cleaning solutions applied at low pressure and allowed to work, followed by a controlled rinse. High pressure on asphalt shingles displaces granules — the layer that protects the shingle — which is why it is not an acceptable method regardless of how fast it appears to work.
We also plan for what runs off the roof: gutters, downspouts, siding, walkways and the landscaping below all get attention before and after.
What we address
- Black streaking and algae on shingles
- Moss and organic buildup on shaded slopes
- Staining on roof surfaces below overhanging trees
- Debris and buildup on adjacent gutter faces
What we will not tell you
We will not quote you a number of years of added roof life, promise energy savings, or claim a manufacturer certification we do not have. Roof cleaning is an appearance and maintenance service performed with methods appropriate to the roofing surface. That is what we sell.
If a roof is in poor structural condition, has failing flashing, or has damage we can see, we will tell you what we observed and recommend a roofer look at it. We clean roofs; we do not repair them.
Commonly combined
Most homeowners bundle these together
Combining exterior work into a single visit is more efficient for everyone and keeps the property looking finished rather than partially cleaned.
Common questions
- Do you pressure wash roofs?
- No. Roofs are cleaned with low pressure. High pressure removes shingle granules and is not an appropriate method.
- Will the streaking come back?
- Organic growth returns over time, especially on shaded slopes and under trees. How quickly depends on the roof's exposure and surroundings.
- Can you clean the roof and wash the house on the same visit?
- Yes, and it is a natural pairing. Runoff from a roof cleaning affects the siding below it, so doing both together produces a cleaner overall result.
- Is it safe for my landscaping?
- Landscaping is protected and rinsed as part of the process. It is a normal part of the job, not an add-on.
